Heads

I'm really not sure if this is even Twilight-related, but it was a little tiny thing that I wrote a few days ago.  It doesn't have names, it doesn't have any descriptions at all, so if you'd like to put Edward and Bella into these characters, you are more than welcome to.  In fact, I'm not even sure if it makes much sense.  But I've decided to post it regardless.  Not expecting any feedback at all, but if you'd like to comment, be my guest.  :)

"Five days."
She looked up at him through her lashes before nodding, wrapping her arms tightly around her chest in a sad attempt to keep herself warm.  She looked down at her feet, biting the inside of her bottom lip.
"They're going fast.  Just… checking them off."
She looked up at him again to see him motioning with his pointer finger, creating a check mark in the air while he watched her.
"Mm," she mumbled, nodding and looking back down at her feet.
"Mm," he mimicked, reaching out and poking her side.  "Hm.  Meh.  You make an awful lot of funny noises."
She looked up at him again and laughed, nodding and shrugging.
"Mhmm."
He laughed and poked her ribs again.  She screeched and danced away from him, moving her arms from her chest and waving him off as he followed her.
"Stop!" she screeched through laughter, placing her hands on his chest and pushing him back.
"Okay, okay!" he laughed, taking a step back and holding his hands up in surrender.
She twisted her lips to the side, tilting her head slightly before sighing quietly and shaking her head.  She didn't like there being distance between them.  She wanted to crawl into his arms and never leave; she felt safe with him.  It was something she hadn't felt in a long time with anyone and she didn't realize how much she'd craved it until he swept into her life.
But she stood her ground and stayed where she was, jamming her hands into the silk-lined pockets of her red pea coat and looking over at him.
They were skirting around everything they were thinking.  It was lighthearted and easy right now, no matter what was going on in either of their minds.  Neither of them were brave enough to say what they were thinking or feeling out loud and she was sure that she'd kick herself for it the minute she got into her car and drove away from him.
Regardless, the one fact still remained; he was leaving in five days.
"Heads or tails?" he asked.
"What?"
He nodded towards the ground in front of him and she looked to see a penny staring up at them a few feet away.
"Heads or tails?"
"Heads," she said immediately.
"Let's see," he mumbled, walking over to it and peering down at the coin.  "You're good."
"I know it."
He laughed and reached down to pick it up, turning it over in his hands a few times.
"I wish for…"
Love, bounced around in her head and she watched as he screwed up his face briefly before throwing the coin in the air.
"Heads it comes true," he said before either of them moved to see.  "Tails it doesn't."
They both walked over to where the coin had landed and he cursed, picking it up again.  It was heads up.
"I wished for a long, prosperous life," he stated, his lips nothing more than a thin line.
"Stop it," she breathed, shaking her head at him.
"I know…"
"And I know differently," she stated, standing up straight and squaring her shoulders.
"One more time," he declared.  "Heads I'll be fine and tails I won't be."
Her breath caught in her throat and she watched as he tossed the penny into the air again, her eyes following it until it landed back on the ground.  She couldn't count how many times she wished for heads in those few short seconds.  They both walked over to it and she finally released the breath she'd been holding, her heart beating rapidly against her ribs as she saw Abraham Lincoln staring up at her.
"You're fine," she managed.
"Yes!" he shouted, startling her.
She laughed weakly and shook her head at him, taking a step back as he held his hands up above his head and strutted around in a circle for a minute.  He finally stopped and walked up to her, standing a breath away from her.
"I don't believe in that stuff anyway."
"Mhmm," she mumbled, pursing her lips and rolling her eyes.
"Mhmm," he mimicked again, reaching out and poking her sides.  She screeched and he pulled on the lapels of her coat to keep her in one spot.  "My hands are cold."
Then he jammed his hands in with hers and she laughed, shifting her hands around until they were placed on top of his in her pockets.
"Ah, nice and warm."
She nodded and resisted the urge to take that one tiny little step forward, resisted the urge to rest her head on his chest, just underneath his chin where she knew she fit best.
"It's a lucky penny," she blurted out, smiling up at him.  "You should keep it."
He tilted his head from side to side before pulling his hands out of her pockets and picking up the penny once more.
"Heads, I keep it and tails, I throw it across the parking lot."
"What are you…?" she started, laughing as he threw it into the air once more.
He wiggled his eyebrows at her before they both walked over to it again and she sighed when she saw the train staring up at her.  He wordlessly bent down and picked it up, chucking it across the parking lot and listening to it as it hit the pavement.
"That was the deal!" he exclaimed when he looked over at her.
"Yeah, yeah," she waved him off, smirking at him.
He held his arms out at his sides as he faced her again.
"Time to call it a night," he stated.
She nodded and walked into his arms, quickly wrapping hers around his waist and finding that spot on his chest to rest her head.  He hugged her tightly, his cheek resting on her hair and she closed her eyes, breathing him in.  He moved his arms from her shoulders, moving them down to wrap around her waist and she moved hers to wrap around his neck, holding onto him tightly.
"I'll text you tomorrow," he mumbled.
"I won't have service."
"Then I'll poke you."
She laughed and nodded, turning her head to bury her nose in his neck and squeeze him once more.
"I'll just poke you back."
"Okay," he laughed.
He straightened up and she immediately missed feeling him against her, but stood up straight as well, her arms still around his neck.
"Drive safe."
She nodded.
"You do the same."
"Always," he grinned.
She laughed and tilted her face to his as he kissed her softly, the mint of his gum immediately filling her nose and making her lips tingle a little.
"Tomorrow."
She nodded again, licking her lips and reluctantly letting him go when he backed away from her.
"Be safe."
Her heart skipped a beat and she smiled at him as they parted ways to get to their respective cars.
"You too."
He grinned at her before he disappeared into his car and she blew out a deep breath as she got into hers.  He waited for her and her heart swelled just a little more as she put the car into gear and pulled from her parking space.  She followed him out, waving to him as she pulled up next to him, once again going their separate ways.
She fought tears the entire way home, her hands tight on the steering wheel as a million thoughts ran through her mind.
I don't care if you don't come home to me, just come home.
She pulled into her driveway twenty minutes later and lazily got out of the car, her heart heavy as she made it up the steps and pushed through the door.  She set her things down and hung her coat up before toeing off her heels and walking into the bathroom.
A penny sitting by her contact lenses case caught her eye and she clenched her jaw, her fingers unintentionally curling into fists as she stared at the worn copper circle on the sink.
Her vision blurred and her breath huffed out of her lungs and before she realized it, she was collapsing onto the toilet with her head in her hands and tears streaming down her cheeks.
